Applicants must be at least 21 years old with a good driving record. All ALS units operate under progressive standing orders, which include advanced airway procedures (paralytics), liberal treatment protocols and a highly developed trauma system. Our career ladder has several steps to allow individuals with a variety of training to enter the career field of EMS.

Metro West supports individuals who continue with their education to the next level. We accommodate school schedules so that First Responders and EMT's who are continuing with their education can continue to work and gain practical experience.

Paramedics are assigned to ALS ambulances and provide advance life support services for the citizens of Washington County. 

Paramedics are also assigned to the Special Events Division which provides medical coverage for the Portland Trailblazers, Indy Car Races, concerts, county and state fairs, and many other social and sporting events throughout the state.

Oregon EMT Certification

Oregon specifies three levels of EMT certifications. Most NREMT certified applicants are eligible to receive reciprocity with a provisional certification.
